Bill was on the fast track for promotion at a mid-size service company when it was suggested that he sign up with an executive coach from The Oliver Group. “At first I was skeptical,” Bill admits, “but after just a few weeks, I was able to clearly identify my strengths and adjust my professional approach to situations that were outside my ‘comfort zone.’ I improved my listening and facilitation skills and developed a new awareness of my co-workers’ learning styles and what motivates them.” Shortly after completing the course, Bill was promoted to senior vice president.

What is Executive Coaching?

The Harvard Business Review defines executive coaching as a “confidential, individually tailored engagement designed to meet the needs both of the executive being coached and of the organization paying for the service.” It’s a personal leadership development process with specific objectives to help a leader grow his or her effectiveness to positively impact business outcomes and align his or her values and vision with the organization’s. It’s usually done in person, and the goal is to enhance the performance of key executives.

Why is it important?

In today’s increasingly fast-pace, competitive and complex business environment, leaders face unprecedented challenges and situations they don’t always know how to handle. An experienced coach can help develop the capabilities of high-potential managers and provide a sounding board on organizational dynamics, strategic issues or day-to-day management decisions.

The need for coaching becomes even more critical as organizations place people in leadership positions earlier in their careers because of the shortage of experienced executives in the marketplace. It’s truly lonely at the top.

Why The Oliver Group?

At The Oliver Group, our coaches are skilled facilitators with objective insights into how individuals and teams are motivated to perform and behave. Using both quantitative and qualitative data, we identify the priority issues that will lead to improved performance.

We help executives by providing feedback about the impact of their operating styles and guiding their learning through discovery, role playing and knowledge transfer.

Common outcomes during the executive coaching experience include:

  • Increased self-awareness
  • Confidence to tackle difficult issues from different angles
  • Skill development in communications, listening, problem solving and analysis
  • Better working relationships and partnerships
  • Conflict resolution between executives or shareholders

The Oliver Group coaches leaders during strategic planning and execution, through on-boarding into new organizations, after promotions and, at times, through transition out of an organization. From start-up founders to global corporate leadership teams, we have earned the respect and trust of leaders to be called their coach.
